چکیده

Method From 1989 to 2013, 44 patients (15 neonates) underwent pacemaker implantation within the first year of life. The mean age and weight were 101.2 ± 97.2 days and 4.8 ± 1.8kg at the time of pacemaker implantation. The Indication for pacemaker implantation were postoperative atrioventricular block in 23, congenital atrioventricular block in 16, sinus node dysfunction in 4, and myocarditis induced atrioventricular block in 1. Unipolar epicardial leads (non steroid eluting: 22, steroid eluting: 22) were inserted through median sternotomy or subxyphoid approach.

Endocardial Pacemaker Implantation in Neonates and Infants

Transvenous pacemaker lead implantation is the preferred method of pacing in adult patients. Lead performance and longevity are superior and the implantation approach can be performed under local anaesthetic with a very low morbidity. In children, and especially in neonates and infants, the epicardial route was traditionally chosen until the advent of smaller generators and lead implantation te...

Twenty-Seven Years Experience With Transvenous Pacemaker Implantation in Children Weighing <10 kg.

BACKGROUND Epicardial pacemaker implantation is the favored approach in children weighing <10 kg in many units. The high incidence of premature failure and fractures with earlier epicardial leads led our unit to undertake transvenous pacemaker implantation in neonates and infants from 1987. To date there have been no long-term follow-up reports of what is for many a controversial strategy. ME...

Minimally Invasive Epicardial Pacemaker Implantation in Neonates with Congenital Heart Block

BACKGROUND Few studies have characterized the surgical outcomes following epicardial pacemaker implantation in neonates with congenital complete atrioventricular block (CCAVB). OBJECTIVE This study sought to assess the long-term outcomes of a minimally invasive epicardial approach using a subxiphoid access for pacemaker implantation in neonates. METHODS Between July 2002 and February 2015, ...

Permanent epicardial pacing in children: long-term results and factors modifying outcome.

AIMS To evaluate the results of permanent epicardial pacing in children. METHODS AND RESULTS All consecutive patients from one country (n = 119, period 1977-2009) undergoing permanent epicardial pacemaker implantation at <18 years of age (median 1.8 years, inter-quartile range 0.3-6.4 years) were studied retrospectively. Median patient follow up was 6.4 years (inter-quartile range 2.9-11.1 ye...
